This painting was created as the album cover for Lungs by musician Dougie Greig. Inspired by the song, I explored the themes of breathing, renewal, and the fragility of life. The figure is shown with their lungs and trachea on the outside of the body—one lung heavy with wilted flowers, the other vibrant and alive. This contrast reflects the duality of holding on versus letting go, of exhaustion and refreshment, and the delicate balance between decay and growth. The work invites viewers to pause, breathe deeply, and consider what it means to carry both endings and beginnings within ourselves.
