I Folded These For You - Fine Art Giclée Print

"The artwork began with grief, the kind that comes on slowly, unexpectedly, and then hits hard, leaving me in a silence that feels impossible to break. The words left unsaid seemed to linger, looking for a way out, but I couldn’t bring myself to say them. At the time of creating this artwork I didn’t realize to what extent the piece was encapsulating my feelings, but as it evolved and now as I look back on it, I realize how closely this image embodies my journey with grief. I began folding all those unspoken messages into little boats made of paper, vessels too light for the heaviness of the words they were carrying. Each fold took felt like a release, as if the act of creasing the paper shaped the emptiness into something I could hold. I felt the weight of those words shifting to the image instead of sitting inside me like a rock. I imagined releasing them into the river, the current taking them to some place far away, where they could be delivered somewhere unreachable. In the painting, the woman kneels by the river, repeating the process of folding and releasing, and the boats gather in the water, slowly being taken by the current, with whispers of tender and raw emotion. For me, this piece is about the strangeness of grief, how it asks us to keep loving in absence, to keep remembering and to speak into the silence that feels comforting when nothing else does. Words and images cannot bring back the ones we love, but they can help us honour them and shape sorrow into something tangible, and let the river carry what we cannot."
