Course Description

Thursdays | Mar 5-26, 2026 | 5:30-8:30pm | C-Market Coffee, Port Coquitlam | Supplies Included Watercolour Foundations is a technique-driven course designed for artists who want to move beyond trial-and-error and develop real control in their watercolour practice. Across four classes, you’ll focus on one technical skill per session, water control, brush control, colour mixing with limited palettes, and an advanced focus such as layering, edge control, or finishing a painting well. Each class includes demonstrations, guided paint-alongs, small experimental practices, and a larger focused study to help you integrate the technique without overwhelm. Rather than rushing through paintings, this course emphasizes how watercolour actually behaves: how water-to-pigment ratios affect form, how brush pressure and economy shape your marks, how limited palettes create harmony, and how thoughtful layering builds depth. Drawing for the purpose of painting is also woven into the course, helping you create confident, paint-ready sketches that support your final work. This course is well-suited for beginners who want a strong foundation and intermediate painters who feel stuck, overworked, or frustrated with colour and control. The approach is calm, intentional, and process-focused, with quiet guidance rather than formal critique. ALL SUPPLIES ARE INCLUDED with registration but there are OPTIONAL take-home kits that will allow you to bring supplies home and get you painting on your own without needing to know what to buy from the art shop. Take-home kits must be purchased before the first class. 🎨 BASIC TAKE-HOME KIT This kit covers good quality student-friendly supplies that let you immediately use the techniques taught in class.
